Belize’s top ten most wanted criminals

Story PictureIt’s the list of the top ten; not in the musical charts, but of hardened and most wanted criminals in the country. The list, released by the Police Department includes men who have committed the most heinous crimes, including murder, kidnapping, and robbery. And while most on the list have not been convicted, a few of them have escaped the long arms of the law and remain fugitives. The list includes:

Gavin Courtenay, Reporting
Twenty-five year old Allan Cal, convicted in the 1999 murder of Anna Lightfoot. Cal has been on the run since escaping from Hattieville prison. Eighteen year old Eric Orlando Gonzalez, of Orange Walk Town, wanted for the stabbing to death of Daniel Soto. Twenty-two year old Herbert Faber of Belize City, wanted for the murder of Jeremy Gibson. Thirty-seven year old Herman Mejia of Belize City, wanted for the 1994 murders of Ann Reilly Dines and her husband Alan Dines, residents of San Pedro, and also for escape while serving a life sentence. Thirty-five year old Julio Martinez, wanted for the murder of sixty-seven year old Manuel Salazar. Twenty-six year old Kevin Dawson of Gardenia Village, wanted for murder. Nineteen year old Lindon Flowers of Belize City, wanted for the murder of Albert Tillett. Thirty-four year old Raul Barahona of San Andres Village, Corozal, wanted for robbery, kidnapping, and escape from prison. Of the men featured on the list, two have successfully been detained, namely, Leon Williams, charged with murder, and Arthur Young, charged for the stabbing murder of Calvin Flowers and the attempted murder of Floyd Wade in November 2000. Arthur Young fled Belize shortly after the murder and was deported by the United States government for illegal entry last week Wednesday after eighteen months at large.

Anyone having information concerning the whereabouts of the remaining eight men is urged to contact the closest police station or call the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 0-800-922-TIPS.
