Deputy Prime Minister Says Inquiry Must Get Serious

Patrick Faber

The testimony today of ex-Minister Penner was broadcast on this station and our social media page. The feed got reaction from Belizeans at home and those in the diaspora. But Belizeans have become wary and cynical of the process.  Questions are being raised whether persons named in the Auditor General’s Report—and who have since appeared to testify—appreciate the seriousness of the inquiry. Deputy Prime Minister Patrick Faber says that he hopes that the true objectives are met.

Patrick Faber, Deputy Prime Minister

“As to his appearing before the senate inquiry this morning, I am missing the show because you know these things are spectacles. But we are hoping that Mister Penner can be useful to the entire process; that is the true objective of the process. Because many will tell you that they believe that it has become a kind of soap opera entertainment rather than gunning for the objectives which it is set out to do. So we are hoping that his presentation this morning will help in the true objectives of the Senate Inquiry.”
