Another Cruel Fuel Increase

Fuel prices keep going up. At midnight on Wednesday, prices shot up again, for the third time since the beginning of the new financial year. This time, the price of premium is above the eleven-dollar mark. It is retailing at eleven dollars and four cents per gallon in the city; that’s a forty-six cents increase since it last went up on April twenty-sixth. Regular gasoline is retailing at the same price of ten dollars and twenty-six cents, while diesel went down by three cents; which is really a drop in the bucket because it went up in late April by twenty-eight cents per gallon. It now retails at nine dollars and thirty-five cents. Prices in the districts are normally slightly more than in the city. The increase in fuel prices is one way through which the Government is raising eighty million dollars in revenues.

  1. Carlos says:

There you go. Increase in fuel prices means higher prices of almost all goods and services. This in turn means less purchasing power of the Belizean dollar. Will Belizeans keep believing Dean Barrow every time he points fingers at the previous Musa government for the suiperbond problem? Barrow could have started fixing this problem from the beginning, as he and his UDP 40-odd thieves promised when they were hat-in-hand asking the people of Belize for a chance to govern. This is the real Barrow’s legacy, KutKelvin: Economic inflation, which translates for us to practical devaluation of our hard-earned dollar.
