22 Gangsters Break Jail in Honduras
The public is being advised to be on the alert for twenty-two escapees from Honduras who are considered dangerous. The gang members escaped from one of the most crowded prisons on Thursday night, and up to today none has been recaptured. The men were being transferred to a higher-security facility when they escaped from armed military guards. The inmates were locked up in the special “Scorpion” unit for members of the notorious Barrio Eighteen gang, made good their escape from the medium-security Marco Aurelio Soto prison in Honduras. The jail’s director and several guards have been put on leave. Honduran authorities are still searching for the escaped inmates and are investigating the escape. This escape is said to be one of the biggest in more than a decade in Honduras. Recently, Honduras has been moving imprisoned members of the Barrio Eighteen and Mara Salvatrucha gangs to higher-security prisons to try to reduce the extortion, killings and drug deals they coordinate from behind bars. There are concerns that these dangerous gang members may find themselves into Belize. If you see any of these escapees you are asked to call the nearest police station.
