Senator for Churches Believes ‘Public Servants’ Behind Immigration Scandal
The other major question about the Senate Special Select Committee is whether it has run its course. So far, three members of the Committee have spoken out, with Chairman Aldo Salazar reiterating that he feels that at most, a few more witnesses will need to be called. Senators Eamon Courtenay and Mark Lizarraga, on the other hand, believe that there are quite a few others who need to be on the hot seat in Belmopan. So where does Senator Ashley Rocke stand? Count him with Salazar, as he believes the inquiry has run its course. He also offered an important conclusion that may shape the final debate.
Ashley Rocke, Senator for Churches
“In my position I believe that the terms of reference of the Senate Special Select Committee has ran its course, I believe that it has met its remit; I think anything else is meddling.”
Aaron Humes
“So at this point you would be prepared to issue your opinion – within the confines of the Committee, of course?”
Ashley Rocke
“Certainly. And with the statements of the other people who are left which is the other two women and the Minister (Godwin Hulse), give their final comments, but apart from that, no.”
Aaron Humes
“Would you care to venture your opinion on what you have heard so far, and what it establishes for you, if anything?”
Ashley Rocke
“What it has established to me is that while we may blame Ministers for a lot of the wrongdoing that may have occurred, we cannot take our eyes off our public servants as well – they have been culprit to all of this.”
Reporter
“But in terms of anything further you would leave that to the Committee to decide generally?”
Ashley Rocke
“As we will have to sit down and decide that, yes.”
of course it starts with the public servants-they are the gatekeepers and have no spine and can be bought out for cheap.
