Teacher accused in rape of 14 year old student

There are strong allegations coming from a mother who hails from Orange Walk Town. It starts with a fourteen year old student from a public school who was looking forward to graduation two weeks ago. Instead tonight the minor and her mother are seeking justice. A teacher from the school, Juan Carlos Villatoro, allegedly kidnapped the child and took her to his home in Trial Farm where it is also alleged he raped her. Police have confirmed the report and since then, Villatoro, who is wanted, has not been seen. The child’s mother claims that Villatoro escaped because he was assisted by a prominent person in the education system and got away. And because justice has been slow in coming, the minor’s mother travelled to Belize City and came to our studios today to tell her child’s story in hopes that the public can assist in locating Villatoro.

Voice of Mother of Rape Victim
“A person took him to find my daughter and instead he took him to the orange Walk Police Station, he took him home, let him run away and they haven’t found the guy since then. Now I am trying to see if they can do something because they are not doing anything. I am just so really upset about this and I need some answers. I can’t take this no more, that’s the reason I came here. Since that day, they haven’t found him or heard nothing about him. They are hearing rumours that he’s calling his wife but they haven’t interviewed her, they haven’t asked her questions. I was in Houston when I heard that this event happened. I came to Orange Walk Sunday from Houston because from what I heard it’s a week ago and they haven’t touched nothing about this. That’s the reason I came all the way from there and I came to do what a mom would do to protect their child.”

“Okay, and how has this affected your daughter since the incident?”

Voice of Mother of Rape Victim
“Well, she was not wanting to go to school because she was afraid the children would laugh at her. And I was not sending her to school because a lot of parents were telling her that she had the fault, that she was getting suspended from school—because she was in standard six. She was graduating on the nineteenth. This is not the first time, he’s been threatening my daughter to have relationship with her. This was the third time; the doctor said it’s so. And he said that if she doesn’t go with him, he would hurt her little brother.”

Late this evening, the Minister of Education, Patrick Faber, told News Five that Villatoro has been fired in absentia and has assured the mother that the ministry will not condone any cover up of this serious issue. According to Faber, the Ministry is offering a reward of five thousand dollars for any information leading to Villatoro’s arrest. The police are also offering another thousand dollars.
