Belize to CODICADER U-15 Games; Still in Danger of Ban
The CODICADER Under-fifteen Games are scheduled to take place in Honduras towards the end of August and Belize will be participating in the upcoming tournament. The announcement follows an official invitation from the president of the Central American sports organization earlier today. But while Belize is set to attend the competition, is it out of the woods as yet, after making it known a few weeks ago that the country will be unable to host the Disability Games in October? The National Sports Council has since contacted Licenciado Gerardo Fajarado Fernandez requesting consideration for young athletes to compete, despite the given situation. This evening, News Five spoke by phone with Julio Llinas, Belize’s CODICADER Focal Point. He says that while we are cleared to participate in the under-fifteen games, a high-level meeting has been set during which Minister of Sports Patrick Faber is expected to work out a solution that will enable Belize to continue to promote sports development in Belize and Central America. Failing that, Belize faces a two-year sanction for not hosting the event.
