ComPol: I Will Sue If Accused of Giving Order to Stop File Investigation

The implication raised by ex-Superintendent Julio Valdez during his testimony on Wednesday was that someone above him suggested that he direct his energy to investigating strictly how Arthur Saldivar’s purloined files went missing from the Immigration Department and not what was in them – as Valdez put it, ignoring a murder at a burglary scene. But Commissioner of Police Allen Whylie, the only man who could have conceivably given such an order backed up by his rank if outside forces are not counted, went on record to state flatly that he gave no such order. While Valdez named no names at the Senate, Whylie raised the matter of previous coverage and warned that he would not tolerate his name being muddied that way. He disclaimed any and all knowledge of wrongdoing personally or through the Police Department at Immigration and challenged anyone who says otherwise to see him in court.

“Sir, I can tell you that couple months ago the media asked me and I’ll be honest with you, all Allen Whylie has is his name that was given to me by my parents and I bear it with pride. And the media asked me a couple months ago that allegedly Mr. Valdez had said certain things and I told the media I said if Mr. Valdez say certain things and I hear him say it and I know it is not true, I will spend ever copper I own to clear my name that’s the way I am. I’ve had issues with certain media houses, I have had those matters with my attorney and one apologized, the other was prepared, but I did not accept the apology and I’m telling you that matter will be pursued. I will spend every copper I have if I have to clear my name because I don’t play that and so Mr. Valdez knows if he comes here and say certain things that he knows is untrue or says it in the media or the public, I will take him to court and I’ll spend every last copper if I have to because I did no such thing, I gave him no such instructions. I’m not a stupid fella, I’m not a crazy man, I have thirty years service with distinction in the Belize Police Department and in the Public Service and I will not throw it away for anybody. Nobody has asked me to do anything wrong doing and nobody will, because anybody you talk to on both side of the aisles will tell you Allen Whylie is a man of his word and if he said it’s so, it’s so. I don’t tell lies on people, I have no reason to; nothing to gain, I’m comfortable in my very own skin, very comfortable in my own skin.”
