Glendy Chi’s horrific tale of stillborn baby at hospital

Story PictureTwo babies died in the south and the Mayan community protested the tragic events in Punta Gorda last Wednesday. Their cries were of negligence and the decay of the public health services. The fears of every pregnant woman were multiplied when last Thursday another expectant mother gave birth in the morning and buried her stillborn baby in the afternoon. Nineteen year old Glendy Chi was too distraught to speak about the situation last week, but today she gave an interview to our colleagues of CTV3 in Orange Walk about the ordeal she experienced at the Corozal Hospital.

Glendy Chi, Mother of Still-born Baby
“I went to the hospital because I thought I would be safer there than home. But when time to give birth had passed and I trusted that they would take care of me. This was my first pregnancy and I didn’t know what to do. I went there to have my baby alive. They shouldn’t have let me wait so long before they induced labour. It really hurts to have my son just die like that. I heard his heart beating and when it was time to give birth, he was born dead. He was too weak to survive the delivery. His skull was broken; it was cracked all over. They didn’t tell me this. It was until I was about to bathe and change him for his burial that I noticed his skull was cracked.”

It is not known whether the Ministry of Health will investigate this latest case.
