O.W.’s Minister Aragon Says No Preferential Treatment for Comrade Hilmar Alamilla

The sensational story of the murder of Daniel Sosa in Orange Walk over the weekend has left many with questions – particularly as it relates to the alleged killer. Forty-two-year-old Hilmar Alamilla, associate of former government minister Gaspar Vega, was arrested and charged on Monday in connection with Sosa’s murder. Today, when the media got a chance to speak with the Minister of Police, Elodio Aragon, he was asked about how police are handling the matter. A well-connected U.D.P. operative, then it is no surprise that he is well known to Aragon who is also from Orange Walk. But the Minister of Police was quick to say that the department is not giving preferential treatment to Alamilla.

“Yes. Of course. Of course. I am from Orange Walk. I know most of the people from Orange Walk. I will tell you this, and I want the community to understand this, the Police Department, I believe, has done an excellent job in terms of that investigation working very closely with the DPP. We got word from the DPP, if I recall correctly, on Sunday where she had already perused the case file and give directives for charges to be laid which was done on I think that Sunday. Definitely, the Police Department, I think, is doing everything as it should do in any case. It doesn’t matter who it is. The Police Department has a job to do regardless of who it is, and that is what we are here for and that is what the Ministry wants the Department to do and we will continue to ensure that these things get done properly and correctly.”

The gun used to kill Sosa was as a nine millimeter. It has still not been recovered.
