P.U.P. Returns Marconi Matus in Twin Towns
In San Ignacio/Santa Elena, the People’s United Party gathered at Sacred Heart College. Former mayor Marconi Matus defeated rivals Javier “Colonel” Castellanos and Arthur Smith to head up the team. He received three hundred and forty-five votes compared to two hundred and sixty-one for Smith and two hundred and forty for the former Belize Defence Force senior officer, Castellanos. But Smith and Castellanos will vie for town councilors along with Zoila Palma; Floyd Lemus; Jeffrey Windsor and Elio Pulido. Matus spoke to supporters following the counting of votes.

I am telling you that I will work hard; campaign along with my team to win this municipality of San Ignacio and Santa Elena. (Applause) Come March seventh, myself and the other six candidates will be victorious and we will be parading the streets of San Ignacio and Santa Elena after the votes have been counted.”
