Who can dethrone Rigo Vellos as Mr. Belize?
On Saturday night at the Bliss Center for the Performing Arts, Belize’s “buffest” men and women will be participating in the Belize Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation’s annual “Mr. Belize” competition. Invited as a guest participant is former regional and international amateur champion turned professional from Grenada, Vonne Francis. But the local focus is on who can dethrone five-time Mr. Belize Rigo Vellos. We spoke to one of the contenders, Clayton Greenidge, and the president of the Federation, Mirna Paul-Greenidge.

“In terms of the categories, we have the bikini fitness, we are going to have our competitors for the bikini fitness, female competitors, we are going to have middle eight, welter weight, and that is in the bodybuilding class for males we will also have masters competition and the light heavy completion. And those who the men’s physique and the winners of the different categories with the exception of men’s physique and novice will be able to compete for the overall title of Mr. Belize. and of course we know that Rigo Vellos is our champion so he is trying to go for the sixth win so it is going to be very interesting, we are going to have Vonne Francis guest posing, he is not competing, only guest posing which is a treat for everyone out there so we want to encourage everyone to come out and be a part of it.”

“Just stay positive and day in and day out I am there, I am working, I have been working hard just to get there to the top because my goal is to be Mr. Belize, to be number 1 and that is my goal. So I will not stop until I became number 1 and that is my goal. I see myself as number one tomorrow, I feel I have the confidence, and I feel that I have put in the work and I feel that this is my time.”
At this hour, athletes are officially weighing in at the Biltmore and Francis has officially been unveiled to the public. Showtime Saturday night is at seven p.m.
