Teenaged murder victim to be laid to rest in Cayo

Story PictureIn reported Tuesday night of a stabbing incident in the Cayo District that ended the life of a sixteen year old minor. The senseless murder occurred early Saturday morning following a night out between a group of friends in San Ignacio. Duane Moody headed west today and found out that the Santa Familia victim will be laid to rest later this week.

Duane Moody
“I am currently standing in front of the Pit Pan Bar. This is the bar where sixteen year old Selvin Garcia was socializing with friends when upon exiting, he was pounced upon by four individuals. They stabbed him and shortly after he collapsed right here behind me. He was then transported to the Western Regional Hospital and thirty minutes later, succumbed to his injuries.”

Insp. Dinsdale Thompson, 2nd in Charge, San Ignacio Police
“Some time around three Saturday morning, police received a report again of a fight that was in progress. This one was Savannah Street in Santa Elena just near the PitPan Nightclub. Upon arrival at the scene, the police officers found one Selvin Garcia, a sixteen year old, with stab wound to the right hand side of his body.”

Natividad Humes, Uncle of Deceased
“Rumours are being spread around that this fight had happened already. So the police brought them to Santa Familia but then two other guys pushed him to go back to San Ignacio to straighten up things with the guys and that’s where he got stabbed.”

Duane Moody, Reporting
Garcia’s Uncle, Natividad Humes, says the family is shocked by the death. Humes stated the last time they saw Selvin was last Friday when he left his home in Santa Familia Village to visit friends in Spanish Lookout.

Natividad Humes
“Everyday, he pass through my yard and he hail us and then that day when he passed through, he hail one of my cousins. I saw them going that way and I thought he was going to Spanish Lookout or to one of his friends but nothing like that.”

Duane Moody
“Okay, did this come as a shock that he actually died and someone actually killed him?”

Natividad Humes
“Yes, it was a shock because he was a person well–he use to drink right but then not to get that drunk and he was a person that I scarcely hear that he was going to Cayo.”

Investigations by the Cayo police have led to the arrest of the four persons who are accused of murdering Garcia. Second Officer in Charge of the San Ignacio Police, Inspector Dinsdale Thompson, says a female is also accused in the fatal stabbing.

Insp. Dinsdale Thompson
“We have arrested four persons and have charged three of them. The fourth one is a female which we are now preparing charges for.”

Twenty-one year old Bateman will be charged along with twenty-five year old Alfonzo Diaz, twenty-three year old Edwin Duran and twenty-one year old Richard Neal, all of the Cayo District. Duane Moody, Reporting for News Five.

I am hereby writing in regards to the accused namely Richard Neal who was charged on the 1st June 2009 for the murder of Selvin Garcia. I as a belizean strongly believe that it was injustice to have this young man be charged and remanded for a crime he never committed. I can assure this because at the time this occured he was with me. A number of witnesses can atttest to this who saw him leave before this incident occuered. He gave his self into police custody on the 1st June 2009 pending investigations, but unfortunately by 2:00pm that said day he was charge along with three other persons for the murder mentioned above. I as his aliby tried to give a statement but it was rejected. he got his disclosur already and there is nothing solid to validate a charge of murder as the only witness mentioned in the statement ” I ran about 30 to 40 ft away and when i turn to look back I saw Alfonso Diaz, Edwin Duran, Richard Neal, Sheree Bateman and others beating and kicking up this young man. Nothing obstructed my view.” My question is why didn’t the DPP office question this statement as how comes the others mentioned were not charged as well. I am hereby asking to please have a perusal in this case and help to see that justice is brought forward.

    Thanks in advance
