Youth Activist Faces Police Assault Charge

A physical altercation between a police officer and a young activist was captured on video this weekend.  Justin Usher was arrested for reportedly punching the policeman.  But the tirade did not end with his arrest.  Despite being restrained, a tearful Usher can be heard saying that his detention perpetuated the so-called injustice that Belizeans are facing at the hands of law enforcement.  Someone else can also be heard in the background hurling expletives at him for allegedly hitting the officer first.  News Five understands that Usher surrendered himself to police earlier today in the company of attorney Kareem Musa where he was charged for assaulting the officer.

“We have seen video on Facebook of Justin Usher’s arrest at the park. It wouldn’t even be mentioned normally, but he rose to prominence recently as an activist.  I don’t know if any of you all are aware of the case with this young man, but he was accused of punching a police officer or some such thing at B.T.L. Park.”

“I have seen the video, but very limited.  I never really paid it much attention as, you know, we are busy dealing with major, major, major things.  But I have looked at it.”
