Drunken Cop to be Disciplined in Latest Police Embarrassment

But on the other side of the law, there have been several recent videos of uniformed police officers acting out while on duty; being drunk and disorderly, embarrassing themselves and the department. Belmopan police have moved to discipline an officer attached to the Roaring Creek Police Station after video posted on social media captured him apparently intoxicated while in uniform. Corporal Glen Arzu is observed standing in front of a Belmopan business on Saturday night. He is seen stumbling and leaning up against a car to support him. Via official communication channels, the officer commanding Belmopan Formation, Senior Superintendent Howell Gillett, formally apologized and said Arzu would be disciplined before midday today, Monday, though he did not specify the nature of the charges.

“Well the matter is definitely under investigation and then, as I said, the Professional Standards Branch is doing the investigation.  They are on the ground as we speak, trying to gather evidence in that regard.”

I wish we could have courageous reporting on this shameful behavior. Everyone knows the police, in general are corrupt, and largely dishonerable (certainly not all, but more than anyone cares to acknowlege). More so in the villages than the cities. On any given day it is no task to find a group of officers sitting around a line of bottles, be it beer or rum. All they do is remove their uniform shirts, get intoxicated and then put their unifrm back on, and somehow this is acceptable? I think not! The problem is that this reprehensable behaviour has been practiced so long with little to no repercussions that no one, including the media looks twice at it. Shame on all involved.

If he was on duty and drunk he should be disciplined. All government officials should go through the same policies.
