Desmond Lewis the Target of Hate? Police Will Not Say

The murder of secondary school teacher Desmond Lewis continues to ripple across the southern communities of Dangriga and Independence Village.  The thirty-five-year-old high school educator was butchered inside a residence near Antelope Street Extension in Belize City on Thursday morning.  Lewis had just traveled to Belize City from his hometown of Dangriga earlier that day and had reportedly been socializing for a few hours before he was murdered.  This morning, police investigators offered brief comment on what they have discovered thus far.

“On Thursday, December twenty-eighth, sometime around 2:40 a.m., police responded to 106 Antelope Street Extensions, Belize City, where they observed the lifeless body of Desmond Lewis, thirty-five-year-old Belizean teacher of a Dangriga address with a large cut wound to the neck and he was motionless.  The scene was processed and his body was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.  Police have since commenced an investigation into this matter.  There’s no other new information.  I believe one person of interest was detained and interviewed but that investigation still continues.”
