Premium, Diesel Prices Spike Tonight but Regular Down
Five days into the New Year, there’s news that consumers don’t want to hear. Fuel prices are going up at midnight so hurry up to the gas station. Today, the Belize Bureau of Standards posted on its website that there will be an increase on all types of fuel, except for regular gasoline, which will see a twenty-two-cent decrease to ten dollars and eighteen cents per gallon. But premium gas increases by seventeen cents from eleven dollars and seven cents to eleven dollars and twenty-four cents. Meanwhile diesel goes over the ten-dollar mark and will not retail at ten dollars and one cent per gallon. The highest increase, however, is in the cost for kerosene, which increases by thirty-seven cents to six dollars and twenty-six cents.

This is killing the economy. Businesses such as mine who operate under fixed contracts cannot go back to our clients and ask for increases due to increases in fuel prices. We are locked in for the duration of the contract. These ridiculous fuel prices must be brought under control now before it collapses our economy.
