Family Fearful after NICH Rangers Reported Missing in Chiquibul

Elroy Alvarado Villanueva

There is word tonight that two park rangers are missing in the Chiquibul. The rangers, Elroy Alvarado Villanueva and another who has been identified as Luis Ramirez, set out from their base at the Caracol Archeological Site in the Chiquibul looking for a vegetable known as chib. That was since Monday afternoon and the duo has not been back as expected at their site, which is in proximity to western border. This afternoon, News Five spoke to Floyd Herbert, the father of Alvarado who provided some information into the disappearance of the rangers who are attached to the National Institute of Culture and History. The family is desperate since a B.D.F. search party came back empty-handed on Monday. Here’s what Herbert had to say:

He said they usually go off not far from where the site is and they usually go and cut a thing that they eat to the back there that they cook weh name Chib or Papaya. I called him personally this evening and he said that’s what they went to cut and have not returned up to now.”

Es urgente que la Corte Internacional de Justicia resuelva la reclamación territorial guatemalteca, para que existan fronteras debidamente delimitadas y demarcadas, para que los guardabosques no se pierdan.
