P.M. Barrow, O.A.S.’ Almagro Meet in Washington
The Organization of American States has had a central role in finding a solution to the territorial dispute. As we have been reporting, Guatemala held its referendum on Sunday and even though the voter turnout was at a low twenty-seven percent, the Guatemalans voted overwhelmingly saying YES to take the claim before the International Court of Justice. Prime Minister Dean Barrow has been in Washington for meetings with the IMF this week. While a release has not been issued here, this morning, the Secretary General of the O.A.S., Luis Almagro tweeted that he had met with PM Barrow. The tweet reads: “Meeting with Prime Minister of Belize Dean Barrow on the work of the O.A.S. on the zone of adjacency with Guatemala and the fundamental result of the popular consultation held in Guatemala last Sunday.” P.M. Barrow is expected back in the country over the weekend.
