Minor Read Murder Charge in Death of Jason Belencio

The alleged shooter of Jason James Belencio was this evening charged with murder. The sixteen-year-old was arraigned at the Belize Family Court late in the evening under tight security. He is reported to be an associate of the George Street Gang and several members of that group appeared at the Magistrate’s Court and then at the Family Court, necessitating heavily-armed police to keep order. On April fifteenth, Belencio, a father of three, was walking on Lovely Lane around six-thirty when he was hit by five shots in the head and back, dying on the spot. After arraignment an unmarked police mobile escorted the regular van taking prisoners up to the Central Prison in Hattieville again for special security reasons.
