Who Re-Surveyed Village’s Farm Land?
Alcalde Constancio Teul says that he is also reaching out to the Ministry of Natural Resources because two plots of land in Maya Mopan Village, where the illegal logging has been taking place, were recently surveyed. Who authorized the survey and why is not known. But Teul fears that there may be hanky-panky afoot.
Constancio Teul, Alcalde, Maya Mopan Village
“I don’t know who surveyed; we wake up one day and when we went there, all of block thirty-one and block thirty-two that is the farm lands for Maya Mopan, all of them are parceled already. But the government surveyed those lands in the 1980s for people in Maya Mopan to use to farm and I don’t know where these new pegs came from. And that’s what I want to find out. Who is the surveyor or who is the owner for those parcels.”
Duane Moody
“Do you feel that they are surveying those lands to parcel them off and give them to people from outside the village?”
Constancio Teul
“I have no idea; that’s what I want to find Duane. I’m not sure. Who are these people? That’s what I want to know. Who own these parcels of land that are being survey? There are new pegs there, new pillars. So I’m not sure. Can I identify the legitimate pillar and a fake one? I took a picture of the one that were done in the eighties; there’s a difference. I am not sure if I can identify if they are legitimate of not.”
Teul says that if there is no reaction to their concerns, the next step is to seek legal advice and support from the Alcalde Association.
Of course there is hanky-panky afoot. And I am sure all of the hanky-panky was fully endorsed by the crooked Dept. of Lands and Surveys.
