Barbadians Count Votes in General Election
Votes are being counted at this hour, two hours east of Belize on the island of Barbados, where voters went to the polls today to elect a new government. The incumbent Democratic Labour Party, led by Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, is being challenged in its bid for a third term by the Barbados Labour Party, led by senior attorney Mia Mottley. The D.L.P. held a sixteen to fourteen seat edge in the last parliament. Among the promises made by Stuart is that if his party wins, he will lead Barbados out of the Caribbean Court of Justice, which it was the first state to join, followed by Belize and Guyana. Here is a report from our colleagues at the Caribbean Media Corporation.
