Mexico Renews Trade Opportunities, Focusing on Eco-Friendly Products
More than ten entrepreneurs from Mexico were today at the Mexican Institute in Belize City for a trade mission. For years now, the Mexican Embassy in Belize has been facilitating these missions, twice a year, to pair Belizean consumers with Mexican producers and vice versa. In the past, the exchange focused on anything from tourism to construction and even agriculture. This year, the ProMéxico which is the Mexican arm of BELTRAIDE partnered with the delegation. Head of the Economic and Trade Section of the Mexican Embassy says that most of the products are eco-friendly.
Maria Fernanda Garrido, Head, Economic & Trade Section, Embassy of Mexico
“We have about six companies who brought eco-friendly and biodegradable products. We have different kinds of water heaters hybrids and eco-friendly. We have natural care products for your skin. We have for construction; we have a couple of companies that are focused on construction. We have also companies who are in the sector of cleaning products, but all of them are eco-friendly which we know is very important here in Belize. So we are trying to bring different companies, different sectors that we have particularly in the south east part of Mexico. So they can come to Belize, see what they can bring to the Belizean market and also what they can take to Mexico too.”

“How important is this to the bond that Belize and Mexico have?”
Maria Fernanda Garrido
“This is fundamental because we share not only a border, but we also have a dynamic economy. So this is an opportunity for Belizean entrepreneurs and companies to see what is Mexico offering and also for the Mexican entrepreneurs it is very important because they can have an approach of what is going on with investment here in Belize, to find opportunities, to bring their companies, also to promote employment and the bilateral trade relations. Sometimes they are focused on tourism or are only companies from Chetumal. In this case we try to bring several sectors to Belize and they are from Yucatan, Quintana Roo, Campeche. So we are trying also to show that there is not only the close places like Chetumal, and I think that ProMéxico is very glad to work with us particularly because they have identified that there have been a lot of results from previous missions.”
