Gilroy Lewis, Belize Solid Waste Management Authortity
“We signed the contract for the construction of a transfer station in Placencia and in Punta Gorda and also the closure of dumpsites in those locations. Solid Waste Management Project Two is a continuation of Solid Waste Management Project One which saw the improvement of solid waste in the central corridor or the central part of the country and this project two now seeks to extend solid waste management services to the north and the south. So, in essence, we will be constructing six transfer stations; one in Corozal, Orange Walk, Belmopan, Dangriga, Placencia and Punta Gorda. So, today’s contract signing is the one for Placencia and Punta Gorda The contract was awarded to Juwan Construction Limited from Cayo and the award for that contract is three point one million Belize dollars because it consists of two works; two transfer stations – the one in Placencia and the other in Punta Gorda. It also includes the closure of dumpsites in each of those locations, site works and everything else.”
