2-Year-Old Viciously Attacked by Pitbull

Kyle Carter

A two-year-old boy is in critical condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital tonight, after being mauled by a pit bull inside his yard over the weekend.  Baby Kyle Carter had just returned home from the store with his mother on Saturday night when she set him down inside their yard on Raccoon Street Extension.  No sooner than turning her back to fetch the items she had purchased, the dog viciously attacked the toddler, biting him in the face and dragging him around the property.  The animal had to be beaten with stick for it to release its hold on the infant.  When the dog was eventually fended off, the little boy was bleeding profusely from the face.  Kyle’s grandmother, Stacey Jones, told News Five today that the toddler has had to receive as many as one hundred stitches for the injuries he sustained.

“Apparently from my daughter, she came in from buying some stuff and she said she came inside at this gate right here at the entrance.  She said she set down the baby so that she can close the gate and apparently by doing that [and] her back [was] turned, the dog just came and grabbed the baby and bit him in the face and started to pull him all over the yard, you know.  That’s all I got from her.  She said it happened so suddenly and so fast, you know, but thank God this young lady was here, my in-law, my sister-in-law, she was here and dah soh dehn come and manage to beat the dog so that he can let go of the baby’s face.  From there, a couple houses from here, a young lady hurry rushed her to the hospital, my neighbor.  I want to say thanks to Ms. Sutherland, I don’t know who’s [Ms. Sutherland], I never met her before but apparently Sutherland is her last name.  I want to thank her so much and everybody who assisted that night.”

“Describe this dog to me.  It seems that you’re in possession of a vicious animal in your yard.”

Stacey Jones

“I wouldn’t say he is, he’s not a vicious dog, you know, he’s not a vicious dog.  He’s not a vicious dog.  We just moved back here going for one year and the dog already got used to us, so I wouldn’t say he’s a vicious dog to anybody… The dog had already gotten used to us but, you know, pit bull is like, something just clicked and that’s what happened, you know.  My brother wasn’t here, you know, but his girlfriend was here and, you know, thankfully to her that she was here to save the baby from the dog.”

“Now what has become of the dog since?”

Stacey Jones

“Well he’s no longer here.  My brother said that he gave it away.”

“Now Ms. Jones, I understand that you just spoke with your daughter a few moments ago.  What is she saying in terms of the state of this baby?”

Stacey Jones

“His heart rate has been dropping due to the tube that they installed in his throat that has come out, so they put him back to sleep.  So overall he still has an infection inside his stomach.  But right now she is there holding on and tomorrow, she says, the specialists are supposed to come in and talk to her and see what procedure [can be done] to move on from there and improve the condition of him, you know.  But you know, we all just have to pray that he will pull through this.”

Isani Cayetano

“My final question, the extent of the injuries to Baby Kyle’s face, did your daughter give you an idea how badly injured he is?”

Stacey Jones

“Apparently the doctors say there are over a hundred and odd stitches in his face totally.  He got, you know, basically on the right side of his face, the dog, you know, his flesh has come out.”

Pit bulls and children do NOT mix. Half of pit bull victims are children and the elderly.
