Price for Regular Gasoline Sees a Nominal Decrease; Consumers are not Happy
The price for regular fuel decreased at midnight, but some motorists are not too happy with the reduction of thirteen cents. Regular gas still sells above the ten dollars mark, with the new price being ten dollars and eighty-nine cents. The government maintains it won’t reduce fuel tax, arguing that to do so would result in an increase in general sales tax and in environmental tax, mass firings in the public sector, or a reduction in pensions. In a release on the latest price changes, G.O.B. said that fuel prices are affected by changing world oil prices, but consumers are not accepting that explanation anymore. They want the fuel prices to decrease by the dollars.

Motorists can breathe a sigh of relief- a sigh worth thirteen cents because that’s how much the price per gallon of regular fuel decreased at midnight. Despite the drop, regular gasoline is now being sold at ten dollars and eighty nine cents per gallon. The decrease came into effect at midnight and while GOB was pleased to make the announcement hours before the decrease took effect, today motorists were not too happy. For some the reduction is too little and brief. They want the fuel prices to decrease by dollars, not cents.
Felix Sandoval, Consumer
“Look here, it should have gone down by at least two dollars. The eleven cents, we are not even feeling that. We are still taking lick out here. Bring it down by two dollars at least, we would have smiled. Right now I am still vexed. That is too light.”
Fitzroy Howard, Consumer
“To me I think that it is not even a reduction in the cost price. That is like you are clowning the people out here because this thing is real. This is an eight cylinder truck. What it takes to run this without a job is very difficult. Especially if you have kids who are going to primary and high school.”
Hipolito Novelo
“I see you have to take out your shillings and dollars…”
Fitzroy Howard
“Everything right now to make the gas money. This is only thirty six dollars. This is not working. This US, they will not take, you understand?”
Hipolito Novelo
“Gas went down at midnight, regular gas…”
Ellsworth Williams, Consumer
“Only regular gas gone down?”
Hipolito Novelo
“Only regular gas gone down.”
Ellsworth Williams
“All the gasses need to go down, not only regular.”
Hipolito Novelo
“Regular gas gone down by a couple of cents.”
Ellsworth Williams
“I think they need to take it down more, not only cents, and all of the gases need to go down. Not only cents.”
A government statement explains that the reduction is a result of a shipment of fuel procured by PUMA earlier last month. This was when global oil prices were still declininG. The expectation is that the decreases will be brief.

“I know you run taxi…”
Felix Sandoval
“You have to hustle. I have a family to feed. That eleven cents does not help. It does not help me at all. Probably it helps Government.”
Hipolito Novelo
“The government says it will not reduce fuel tax. It’s world oil prices…”
Felix Sandoval
“But he can reduce at least by two dollars. Two dollars can help we.”
Hipolito Novelo
“The Government says that if they reduce by ten cents they will lose about two to three million dollars in revenue.”
“Well that is their thing. Make they take out from their money what they put up. You understand me? And reduce it on poor people.”
Fitzroy Howard
“It is a continuous struggle for the poor people in this country. It is just ridiculous how they are treating poor people in this country. It is just ridiculous the way people are being treated here in this country.”
Hipolito Novelo
“Would you hope that the Government would reduce the fuel tax?”
Fitzroy Howard
“That is the hope but that is just a hope. Until the people start to get up and do something for real, real, then that will just be hope.”
Hipolito Novelo
“How much does it take you to full this eight cylinder truck?”
Fitzroy Howard
“Two hundred and ninety seven dollars right now. It used to be two hundred and forty seven before they raised the price.”
Ellsworth Williams
“I do not see why they should no reduce tax because they are killing the poor people. They are to help the poor people, not kill them.”
Hipolito Novelo
“It gone down by couple of cents, it now sells for ten dollars and eighty nine cents. Is that enough for you Sir?
Ellsworth Williams
“It will never be enough for me. All I got to tell the Prime Minister is do the right thing and stop chance the poor people.”
Premium Gasoline and Diesel remain at eleven dollars and seventy one cents and ten dollars and seventy five cents respectively. Government is keeping a close eye on the matter and PUMA and other stakeholders are actively involved in discussions. Reporting for News 5 I am Hipolito Novelo.
The pump price for kerosene saw a decrease of forty-three cents and now sells for eight dollars and twenty one cents per gallon.
