CEDA Training to Assist Export Capacity of Belize & the Region
The two days will feature presentations from the Belize Bureau of Standards, the Belize Intellectual Property Office as well as BELTRAIDE and CEDA. Marketing Intelligence and Caribbean Export Advisor, Zamani Moodie says this is the third training session being done to assist not only Belize, but the region in its export capacity.

“We’ve had one in Antigua, another in Bahamas that we have identified the importance of our business people using market information in their decision making. As such we decided to craft a training session specific to firms—not to develop experts, but to build an appreciation for information because Caribbean Export along with BELTRAIDE will have the capacity to provide further assistance, but our firms need to know the importance of using market intelligence and market information. And only then they can access our services and know what it is they need from us. So it makes our work easier if we are able to build an appreciation with firms.”

“Is it only to export within the region, from country to country, or outside of this region?”

“It’s a combination because we found that the biggest potential for a number of our stakeholders are intra-regionally so we emphasize the importance of partnering, forming strategic alliances, of developing valued chains within the region. But we also spend a sometime going through the economic partnership agreement with the EU for example. So we have a number of videos that we’ve developed at Caribbean Export where we break down these trade agreements, simplify them and animate them so it is simpler and more palatable for our exporters, our small exporters. So we are going through a number of opportunities that are provided under the EPA specifically, but we will show them where they can get information on other trade agreements.”
A total of thirty-five participants are engaged in the workshop; twenty percent are private sector representatives and clients of Export Belize and fifteen business support organizations. Those participants include a cross-section of industries such as poultry, rum, juice and pepper sauce and cacao producers.
