Belizean Exporters Learn the Tricks of the Trade for New Markets
A two-day marketing intelligence training workshop for local business owners began today at the ITVET Compound in Belize City. It is being held through a partnership between the Caribbean Export Development Agency and the Belize Trade and Investment Development Service and seeks to engage businesses that are exporting or interested in exporting to international markets. The goal is that the capacity building exercises will help exporters to tap into new markets. Export Belize’s Shauna Arnold says that it falls in line with BELTRAIDE’s National Export Strategy for 2015-2019 in which business owners will assess their company’s export readiness.

“Given our work with Export Belize’s clients, we feel that market intelligence is an essential part of entering any export market. Companies may not be aware of the culture of their competitors, of market trends, of buyer preference in an external market and as such, it is essential for them to have some sort of market intelligence before going in. you do market research to become market intelligent. And so the training is aimed at providing them with the essential tools needed to conduct that market research for them to become more market intelligent when entering export markets. The benefits of having market intelligence is to be more successful or to be able to develop a strategy when entering an export market. It lets you know what the packaging of your product will look like; how to set up you’re pricing against your competitors; what your distribution channel will look like in that foreign market so that you are more successful. It mitigates some of the risks as oppose to not doing any research when you enter that foreign market.”
