DPM Faber attended the fourth annual Belize Film Commission/Hollywood Luncheon

DPM Patrick Faber recently returned to Belize, having attended the fourth annual Belize Film Commission/Hollywood Luncheon. This past Saturday, the Consulate General of Belize in Los Angeles hosted Hollywood executives and international investors, as well as members of the Belizean diaspora involved in the film industry. The luncheon was an opportunity for Belize to be sold to industry stakeholders as a film production friendly jurisdiction and to promote Belizean talent to international partners looking for locations and investment opportunities.  Faber says that there is a possibility that a film school is developed in Belize.

“We met with those who were from various areas; from directing, screenplay writing, acting even to see what they are saying they would need to see in our Belizean context for them to come to do business in Belize. And likewise, we get an opportunity to share with them, give an invitation and promote Belize as a natural environment for the film industry. There were a number of exciting things on that visit, but one of the things that struck me that could be most beneficial to Belize is the development of a film school in Belize. And also that that school will bring an online distance component where we will have the experts, world-renown entities aiming to train our local Belizeans, but not only our local Belizeans, our regional people so that Belize can become a possible hub for talent that the industry needs whenever they come to this side of the world to film. We saw a great potential in virtual reality; that’s the way of the world now. But imagine if we can do a VR capturing of our barrier reef under the sea, of our Mayan ruins and we can sell this to other parts of the world so that people can have the experience of walking on a Mayan temple with a VR headset in an enclosed area with the floor moving and coming close to the edge; you could feel that reality. If we are able to do that kind of thing, taking Belize to the world without people actually coming here and then inspiring them to get to come to Belize. That represents for us a tremendous potential and I am all excited coming back from this trip to make new possibilities here in Belize.”
