3 Confirmed Cases of H1N1 in Corozal

The Ministry of Health has confirmed three cases of H1N1 Influenza in the Corozal District. The confirmation was received this afternoon from the Central Medical Lab in Belize City. A release from the Ministry states that the cases include two men and a pregnant woman. The men had recently traveled to Merida in Mexico while the woman is originally from Chetumal.  The ministry says that it has activated its Northern Regional and National Surveillance Teams to immediately manage the confirmed cases and prepare a plan moving forward. The Ministry ensures that the situation will be monitored by officials and another advisory will be issued if there are any new cases. Two weeks ago, dozens of cases of H1N1 were confirmed in the State of Quintana Roo. Three persons were reported dead due to the virus. Also known as Swine Flu, symptoms related to the H1N1 Influenza include coughing, fever, body aches and fatigue.  Though at this point there is no need for panic, the influenza caused many deaths, as many as sixty-eight, when it hit Mexico.
