Great Belize Productions Wins Big At 49th CBU Awards

Great Belize Production’s News Five received multiple awards on Tuesday night during the forty-ninth annual Caribbean Broadcasting Union’s Annual General Meeting which was held in Jamaica.  This company earned top honors in nine of twelve television categories.  Our station received eleven distinctions for the excellent work by our news and production teams. Stephanie Daniels and Rick Romero won the Best Magazine Programme for their Veranda Tales: Episode One.  Journalist Isani Cayetano and video editor Chris Mangar took the award for Disaster Resilience for their story: “The Impact of Hurricane Earl One Year Later.” Cayetano and Manger won a second award this year in the Climate Change Category for “Monkey River and Punta Negra Tourism.”  Rick Romero and Marleni Cuellar won an award in the HIV/AIDS Prevention, Treatment, Care and Support category for our story based on “Why Men Get Tested.”  Channel Five also won the People’s Choice Award for the story “Triple Joy’ which focused on the birth of triplets. That story was a collaborative effort between Duane Moody, Andrea Polanco, Darrel Moguel and Rick Romero. Great Belize Production received special mentions for Best Documentary, Best News Item, Best Investigation Report, Coverage of HIV/AIDS Report, Feature on Climate Change and the Golden Conch Shell Award. Joining me tonight are Isani and Stephanie.
