Nazarene High School Students Turned Back for Inappropriate Haircut
Police officers were called on a group of Nazarene High School students this morning after they refused to leave from in front of the school’s compound in Belize City. The students were prevented from entering the compound and attending classes after it was deemed that their hairstyles were inappropriate. Tensions quickly rose and the school saw the need to call the authorities on the students. Youth Pastor and teacher at Nazarene High School, Andrew Hemmans, explained why the school is taking such a hard stance against hairstyles he believes are not fit for the classroom.

“Over the past couple of years the school has a student handbook that it has been trying to implement as best as possible. One of the issues that are addressed in the student handbook is the student dress code and their attire. So this morning you say the consequences of not following certain rules that the school has in place. Due process was taken, the students were given a reminder first and then they were given a warning and so the consequences took place this morning.”

“Was the police necessary to remove them?”

“The police were not necessary to remove them but at some point in time the students were gathering so the head of the security for Nazarene High School felt as though we had to call the police just to disperse the crowd.”

“One of the students made an allegations that majority of the students who were sent home were Hispanics and they feel as if though they may have been targeted.”

“At no point in time that was our target group at any point in time. Personally I went to each classroom and I had students with module haircut stand up and we showed them an array of what we wanted, a display of the different types and the levels at which their hair should have been cut.”
Those Spanish guys have normal haircut- that is reverse discrimination- you are doing- please set the example and go trim your beard- that ugli taliban sedi looking fake Santa bwoys is out of control like a young poke and is actually longer than any of the kids hair I saw on tv- hypocrite with power then abuses it
I didn’t see anything wrong with any of the students haircuts. That principal’so beard was the most unkept thing there.
I understand it is said that the way an individual dresses in many cases brings out the confidence in that person whether it be in their job place or school, I also completely understand if the kids were attending classes sagging showing there boxers,shirts not tucked in etc. and refusing to not adjust the inappropriate dressing and get sent home for not meeting the standards of what the school has set in place regarding dress code since they are representing the establishment and refuse to abide and adjust. I totally disagree with sending a child home for a hair cut smh..the hair cut could be something that is personal to each individual and does not affect the child’s learning environment in any way nor does it directly affect the outlook of the schools educational system,and does not affect the other children. The police presence to have the children leave the school was totally unnecessary, it’s obvious they wanted to stay and believed they were wrongfully being sent home. In the end at-least these children were that interested to stay around and see if something changes for them to attend classes, some other children would be glad to leave and idle the day away.

Rules are meant to be followed. The very reason Belize is in the state it is in. To be a part of an organization you need to follow rules that reflects the values of the school. Belize will never change because as Belizean we think we are bigger than any organization.
