Belizean-American Soldier Dies in South Korea

Adrienne Barillas

A Belizean-American soldier has died in South Korea. Twenty-two-year-old Private First Class Adrienne Barillas of Woodlands, Texas, was found unresponsive at Camp Humphreys on Sunday. There are not many details known about the soldier’s death except that it is being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Command.  The Second Infantry Division soldier had been assigned to the combat engineer battalion at the base since November of last year.  Barillas, who had earned the Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon, went to South Korea about six months after joining the military as a water treatment specialist.  An independent online site which provides army related news quotes the battalion commander saying, “Private First Class Barillas was a warrior and a valued member of our team. We mourn her loss and pray for the comfort of her family and loved ones at this difficult time.” Online information shows that Barillas was a student of St. Joseph Primary School and later attended Pallotti High School. She pursued college education at Saint John’s Junior College.
