UB President Says Thanks for Support During a Difficult Time
On Monday, we reported on twenty-two-year-old Nishal Sankat, the son of the University of Belize President Clement Sankat, who was detained in Orlando, Florida. Late last week, the young man attempted to steal a commercial plane at that Orlando Melbourne International Airport. He was denied bail on Friday because he is considered a flight risk since he is the holder of Trinidadian and Canadian passports. Professor Sankat has been out of the country checking up on his son. But the University of Belize has issued a statement to extend thanks to the support for the senior Sankat through what they describe as an “extremely difficult period.” According to the release, the U.B. President has not been able to speak with his son and the information surrounding his case at this time is limited. At this time, Professor Sankat and his family are still trying to ascertain all the facts surrounding the incident, and his son’s well being.
