FM Elrington: Not All Politicians Steep in Belize/Guatemala Dispute
But do the naysayers include some of Elrington’s cabinet colleagues? Last week, Minister Edmond Castro said he will make up his mind after he finds out what Guatemala has to offer. Minister of State Tracy Taegar Panton wouldn’t commit and the DPM Patrick Faber, said yes, but his constituents can take a conscious vote. Elrington says that not all politicians are sharp on this national issue.
Wilfred ‘Sedi’ Elrington, Minister of Foreign Affairs
“I have known no Belizean who doesn’t have a political agenda, who when he gets the facts, when he gets the information doesn’t say automatically yes you must go to the I.C.J.”
Duane Moody
“So those persons are uninformed?”
Wilfred ‘Sedi’ Elrington
“You make that assumption, not me. From my ten, eleven, twelve years old, I know the I.C.J. is the way to go. I had no hesitation on that. But not everybody had my experience. I grew up attending political meetings given by both George Price and Philip Goldson, and I am steep in the history of this matter. But some people just got into politics; they are not steep into it. They are steep into other aspect of politics, but not necessarily this one, but this one is most important, I will tell you that so I have no hesitation.”
