PM Barrow Reports on His Health After Back Surgery in Cuba
Prime Minister Dean Barrow hosted an extended press conference today, following an equally lengthy hiatus from the public eye since his return from medical treatment in Havana last month. This morning’s brief touched on a raft of national issues, from Belize’s economic performance to the pending I.C.J. referendum and all points between. The PM first spoke of his health, saying he is recovering as planned and back in control of his government.

“In terms of where I am now, I will borrow from Raul Castro’s famous words, though said in another context. My recovery is proceeding “sin prisa, pero sin posa.” Roughly translated, I suppose we could say slow but sure. I’m only seven weeks into the recovery and optimum results can’t be expected, so the doctors say, until I reach the four-month mark. But meantime I am at work chairing Cabinet meetings and, as I hope to demonstrate today, fully engaged in dealing with the business and problems of our country.”
