An Innovative Tourism Talk with Local Stakeholders
Tourism stakeholders, mainly hoteliers and tour operators, participated in a regional initiative funded by the Central American Travel Agency and supported by the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation in Belize. Participants are learning to develop digital marketing strategies to feature their respective businesses online and at the touch of your fingertips. The trainers for the innovative tourism TALK were representatives from Google and Expedia, who are experts in this field. Executive Director at the Belize Tourism Industry Association, John Burgos tells us more:
John Burgos, Executive Director, B.T.I.A.
“We have been communicating through FEDECATUR, which is the Central American Region that represents the private sector and the Belize Tourism Industry represents Belize there. So our counterparts from the government is the Central American Tourism Agency and so they began discussing that we need more information. We need to know more about data and how to position Belize and the stakeholders and businesses better. How can we do this in targeting a specific country and a specific region. So that’s where the discussion began and a couple of months ago, we were able to provide the opportunity to some of the Central American private stakeholders, some of the technical persons were able to partner with More Turismo which is a consultancy agency who specializes on digital marketing strategies globally. These guys travel all across the world, doing marketing strategies for different areas, different businesses, different countries. They were the ones that originally brought the idea of having an innovation and tourism talk. Let’s talk specifically about how Belize stands in the global region with Google, Expedia and Trip Advisor.”
