Marked Progress in Renewable Energy
There has been significant progress in the area of renewable energy, where several CARICOM countries have developed strategies to support the development of clean energy.
Devon Gardener, Head of Energy Unit, CARICOM Secretariat
“Certainly we have had a number of advances on the renewable energy side. A number of countries have been developing policies over the last five years or more that are supporting modern, clean energy development, especially indigenous renewable energy options. And so, we want to look at how far these countries have come and to really look at whether some of the policy agenda is still relevant and current and capable of supporting further transition than what they have achieved so far. We are trying to look at some of the arrangements for, if you want to call it, regulations in some of the countries that regulate the sector. As a matter of fact, you know, the theme of this forum this year is actually called, Clean Energy Good Governance and Regulations, for that matter because we really are looking at how it is that we can better improve the policy and rearrangements, the institutional pieces that can support the policy that are facilitatory, as well as the regulatory aspects of clean energy deployment.”
