PM Barrow meets Cuban President
Prime Minister Dean Barrow is in Cuba on his state visit to the island where he recently underwent surgery. He met Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and both paid tribute on Tuesday to José Martí, a national hero of Cuba. During their meeting, President Díaz-Canel and PM Barrow discussed issues of regional integration and areas of bilateral cooperation including strengthening tourism between the two countries, expanding agricultural cooperation, and continuing support in the areas of sports, education, and health. President Díaz-Canel pledged continued support for Belize and committed to looking into the expansion of bilateral initiatives. On Belize’s part, Barrow assured the Cuban President continued support in education through the Regional Language Center in Belmopan. Barrow was accompanied by Ambassador of Belize to Cuba Lou-Anne Burns Martinez. The Prime Minister returns on Saturday, January nineteenth.
