Rogue Cops Will Not be Tolerated

The new ComPol, Chester Williams has been making his media rounds and connecting with the department he is now heading and depending on to carry out his agenda to reduce the murder count that has placed Belize as one of the most murderous countries. Today, he convened the first senior officers conference at the Police Training Academy in Belmopan. Aside from the crime, Williams also has to deal with the rotten apples inside the department, some who are facing criminal charges already for drug plane landings or excessive use of force on civilians. Prior to his promotion, Williams was once at the helm of the Professional Standards Branch and has shown that he has a zero tolerance for corrupt officers in the department. He is taking a tough stand against the rogue cops.

“The important thing is how did we respond whenever we have information and evidence of our officers’ involvement in these sort of things….and I believe that our response over the years have been very good. I can assure you again that under this administration, police corruption, police brutality will be an absolute no, no. If we want to win the support of the public and if we want to be able to get the consent of the public, then we have to police in such a way that the public is going to accept, respect and trust us. And so that is of paramount importance in moving this department forward.”
