Lip Service: a Fellatio Workshop
There is a raging social media debate over B.F.L.A.’s decision to hold a fellatio workshop. The Belize Family Life Association is an N.G.O. that focuses exclusively on sexual and reproductive health and rights. According to its website, sexual and reproductive health care is not simply a matter of imparting information about sexually transmitted infections or designing activities to increase contraception use. It focuses on supporting the individual as a whole by providing role models, stability, and a sense of belonging. Thus, B.F.L.A.’s “After Dark” was born. The session caters to mature adults looking to explore their sexuality and sexual desires in a safe environment and with guidance. A fellatio workshop is scheduled to take place on February thirteenth and some members of the public are not too happy with the idea of B.F.L.A. offering this type of service. News Five’s Hipolito Novelo found out what the workshop is really about.
Non-governmental Organization, the Belize Family Life Association, B.F.L.A. has an ongoing programme appropriately named BFLA After Dark specifically for adults. For the past two years, BFLA After Dark has been holding several sessions where mature clients are able to explore their sexual desires in a comfortable and safe environment, with proper guidance and information sharing. The upcoming Lip Service: a Fellatio workshop for women has created division among some members of the public.
Sharmane Garcia, Marketing Officer, B.F.L.A.
“As some of the comments on social media allude to degrading of women, I can’t see how it is degrading because it is pleasuring your partner and yourself. It is not like we are leaving men out of the equation. It is giving pleasure and instead of women feeling like they are doing a job or it is a difficult task to perform on their partner, they will be learning a different technique and how you could enjoy giving pleasure to your partner. So it is a win-win situation really.”
Marketing Officer at B.F.L.A, Sharmane Garcia says that the fellatio workshop is much more than just fun and games. Participants, she says, will be educated on safe sex including how to detect if their partner has a sexually transmitted infection.
“They are going to learn what to look out for. One of the things we always tell women is stop telling men or your partners to turn your lights off. In turning off that light, you don’t know what you are finding especially if it is your first time with that person. You could be harmed in doing oral. It is about the safety, education, what you do, what not to do, what to look for so were are giving that side of it as well. Like I said, it is not all about fun but also education an entertainment.”
On Social media, the idea that BFLA is facilitating a fellatio workshop is not sitting well with many. Facebook users have spoken out against the programme, condemning it as the promotion of perversion. Garcia, however, says since the debate sparked online, the phones have been ringing non-stop with eager women on the other end of the line, trying to become a participant.
“We know that there are people who appreciate the services that we are offering and people who know better but I will tell you this; we are so thankful for all the publicity we got whether it was bad or good, negative, positive. We are so happy because the phone has not stopped ringing. We are overbooked for February thirteenth. We had limited spaces and we have tripled the amount. So we have to take them over to February twenty-second, that’s our other event because it is three events. So those who missed out on February thirteenth, you have February twenty-second and March eight to be part of this fantastic experience.”
During the sessions, no phones or recording of any type will be allowed. There is a thirty-five dollars fee per session. Hipolito Novelo, News Five.
