Nigel Hawke Resigns as Solicitor General of Guyana
The appointment of Nigel Hawke as Solicitor General of Guyana was short-lived. Hawke served in that capacity here in Belize for about four years, exiting the post in December of last year. Reports from Guyana say that Hawke resigned abruptly on Wednesday and with immediate effect. It happened after Court of Appeal Judge Rishi Persaud rebuked “Attorney General Basil Williams SC for glaring errors in documents submitted to the court regarding government’s challenge of the no confidence judgments.” According to the Stabroek News, soon after returning to his office from the courts, Hawke was locked in a closed door meeting with Williams for about fifteen minutes. Thereafter, he departed the building in a taxi.
