Will it be a No or a Yes on Referendum Day?

And finally from the Prime Minister, the press asked Barrow whether the U.D.P. will be focusing their resources on constituencies with a larger number of voters. According to Barrow, each of the party’s area representatives and standard bearers has been tasked to take out voters. Barrow also commented on the P.U.P.’s string of I.C.J. rallies countrywide, leading up to the May eight referendum. The Prime Minister added that it would be in the best interest of Guatemala for Belizeans to vote no because if a no vote succeeds, the Guatemalan government can claim the moral high ground.

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“You do good in larger constituencies that has greater effect with respect to the overall results. It is not that that people in larger constituencies are being given any more resources that people in smaller constituencies. In those rural areas where they are twenty one villages, in places like Stann Creek West and Belize Rural North, of course there is an effort to take that into account and recognize that yes people have to be better resourced.”

“Are you concern that the PUP are having rallies. They had one in the south and one in the city tonight. When people have rallies, it is indicative that they money. Is this a concern for the PUP and is there a question about source of funding which can never be brought up in political campaign because we know the source of funding is an eternal mystery but it has happened before in Belize’s political history that Guatemala has funded their position at the time against the British. But it has happened. Have you entertained such a possibility?”

Prime Minister Dean Barrow

“There are others who have made that point. But it has happened. There is nothing to say that it is not happening now but of course we have no evidence at all to support that.”
