Ministry of Health Concludes Investigation into Death of Baby Thevane
An investigation following the death of eight-week-old Thevane Banner has been concluded by the Ministry of Health. The newborn died from battered child syndrome and his father, twenty-eight-year-old Troy Banner, has since been arrested and charged with manslaughter. Despite a subsequent arraignment, Director of Health Services, Doctor Marvin Manzanero reveals that the Ministry of Health had put together a report prior to the incident being investigated as a criminal matter.
Dr. Marvin Manzanero, Director of Health Services
“We got a police medical report before it was even flagged as a police case because the baby in our initial report in our health facility arrived with no pulse, but we still did all the cardiopulmonary resuscitation that is warranted in any case arriving like that. And once we alerted the police and the social worker of what we had found in the initial physical examination then it becomes a police case. Then we just followed the process and we got copies of that medical autopsy. Since it is a legal case, I would rather not make any further comments. We have completed our investigation and I think that process will follow and it will; the report may come up whenever the legal case comes up.”
