K.H.M.H. will offer laproscopic surgery

Story Picture
If the thought of a long scar and months of healing time make you reluctant to take an operation, laproscopic surgery might be just the thing for you. The K.H.M.H. will soon be able to offer the public this latest surgical procedure, thanks to a donation of laproscopic equipment from a hospital in Pennsylvania. Dr. James Gardner of Jameson and St. Francis Hospital handed over the gift this morning.

“To do laproscopic surgery you need a video system similar to what you might use for videos on a TV. You need a TV screen, which is separate and you also need cameras and a long fibreoptic lens, which goes into the abdomen and picks up the image.”

Ann-Marie Williams

“So it’s just to make a small incision and put the camera inside to see what’s going on?”

Dr. James Gardner

“That’s correct.”

“What are the different types of surgeries laproscopic equipment favour?”

Dr. James Gardner

“Laproscopic equipment was first used in removing gall bladders in the U.S. It’s also used by gynaecologists for removing the uterus and ovaries. The equipment is used, but the instrumentation we brought to go through the equipment is new.”

Gardner says the donation is valued at over twenty thousand U.S. dollars.
