PACT Gets Approval for 2 Climate Programmes in Belize

Earlier today, the Protected Areas Conservation Trust, PACT, announced that a pair of programmes under its Climate Finance Portfolio has been approved through international climate finance mechanisms.  Support for these initiatives follows the Trust’s recent accreditation by the Green Climate Fund and re-accreditation by the Adaptation Fund in 2018 and 2019, respectively.  On Monday, the GCF gave the green light for a Readiness and Preparatory Support Programme proposal.  The programme is valued at roughly two hundred and eighty thousand U.S. dollars and will enable PACT to conduct essential capacity building and training activities for staff and national stakeholders on gender, social and environmental safeguards for project development and implementation.  Essential to this is the updating of PACT’s Environmental and Social Management Framework, as well as its policy on gender and equality.  Furthermore, on October tenth, the Adaptation Fund Board approved a project concept for enhancing the resilience of Belize’s coastal communities to climate change impact.  That proposed programme will be financed with four million U.S. dollars.
