IDB conducts high level visit to Belize
There was a high level visit by representatives of the International Development Bank this week. Vice President Alexandre Meira da Rosa accompanied by Country Representative Cassandra, met with top government officials and private sector representatives. The discussions were on the strengthening of the Bank’s partnership and cooperation with the public and private sector to ensure sustainable development. The I.D.B. team met with P.M. Barrow and other officials including Financial Secretary, Joseph Waight, and Elvira Mendez, Belize’s Representative on the I.D.B. Board of Directors. The visiting team also met with Governor of the Central Bank, Joy Grant, where discussions were centred on macro economic and fiscal conditions. The I.D.B.’s V.P. also signed two technical cooperation agreements with Ya’axche Conservation Trust for the project ‘Enhancing Conservation in Belize’s Protected Areas through Disruptive Technologies’ and with the Development Finance Corporation for the project ‘Green Finance for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency’ amounting to one point eight million Belize dollars. There was also a visit to an I.D.B. project, the sanitary landfill at Mile twenty-four on the George Price Highway.
