BCCI writes to CEO in requesting documents for the contract of the Coastal Road
Since the signing of a huge contract of one hundred and thirty-three point two million dollars for the Coastal Road between Government and Imer Hernandez, serious concerns have been raised. Hernandez, the relative of former P.M. Gapi Vega, who has emerged as government chief contractor, has won a number of other contracts with G.O.B. though the quality of work is under question. The P.U.P. was first to write the funding agencies seeking clarity on the recent contract. Now, the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry has written to the Government. On December fifth, 2019, the B.C.C.I. wrote to the C.E.O., Errol Gentle of the Ministry of Works seeking full disclosure of the contract under the Freedom and Information Act. B.C.C.I. is requesting a copy, Procurement Methodology, Evaluation Criteria and Final technical score for all tendering firms, name of other tendering firms, qualification for suspended structures for the firm that is being hired and their proven qualification of the scope of work of the contract. The contract was signed in early December for the thirty six mile stretch of road that connects the Belize District to the south. Lot one is priced at sixty-two point nine million dollars and seventy point two million dollars for Lot two. Work is expected to be completed in three years.
