Classical Music inside the Bliss
Eleven performers will host an-hour-and-half show inside the Bliss tonight and another show inside the Mexican Institute on Friday night. The shows, which are being put on by Belize Virtuosi and the Belize Academy for Performing Arts, in collaboration with NICH and other partners, will pay tribute to famed Austrian musician Ludwig Van Beethoven’s. The concert series is led by a group of classical musicians from Austria. Visiting musicians on string instruments will lead the concert, but the showcase will also feature local acts. Here’s more from Austrian musician Peter Illasky:
Peter Illasky, Classical Musician
“We are presenting another concert after we had last year here a concert for the official opening of Belize Virtuosi. Tonight we come with more teachers from abroad. There are teachers from Mexico, Austria and the United States to bring the best music from Austria and Belize because there is the anniversary for a famous composer of Austria from Ludwig from Beethoven. We will highlight this with a special piece he wrote a long time ago. And we will also have the music from here being interpreted by classical string instruments and there will also be songs and we will feature the steel drums tonight. I would say in the first instance that classical music means today to play everything unplugged; with the natural instruments, without any amplifications or the pre-recording. It is just the way – like you see this cello. It is just a piece of wood and there are some strings on it and I play with the bow. With this you can produce a lot of sound. I have found a lot of traditional instruments during my two years here in Belize; drum instruments; flutes; there is so much and we also want to preserve this in Belize.”
The free show tonight kicked off at six at the Bliss. On Friday, you can catch the concert again at the same time but at the Mexican Institute.
