Jamaica PM Says He is Not Engaging in a Policy to Divide CARICOM
Belize’s Foreign Minister Wilfred Elrington is among a group of ministers from seven other countries meeting with the U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo who is in Kingston, Jamaica. The gathering prompted controversy because not all Caribbean countries were invited so that Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago and others are not attending. The United States is known to be pushing for the re-election of Luis Almagro as O.A.S. Secretary General, a position which is not supported by some Caribbean states because of Almagro’s stance on Venezuela. At a press conference today, the Jamaican PM rejected the notion that Jamaica was engaging in a policy to divide CARICOM. Here is a report from our friends at TVJ.
